How do I become a member of AYC?
Interested youth in grades 7 through 12 attend a basic legal education class taught by local attorney volunteers. Classes are held in the fall, spring and summer. Each class course covers jurisdiction, procedure, advocacy, ethics and case preparation.
After successfully completing the classes, students take a Youth Court bar exam. Students must pass the exam with a score of 70 or better to get sworn-in. Students have chances to retake the bar exam if they do not pass it the first time around.
What are my responsibilities as a member of AYC?
AYC members are trained as judges, jurors, prosecuting and defense attorneys in actual criminal cases with peers
AYC Juvenile Intake refers offenders charged with misdemeanor criminal offenses
AYC sentencing which includes:
- Restitution to victim and community
- Written essays to reflect on the violation of the law
- Participation in classes or workshops specific to the offense
What are some of the benefits to being a member of AYC?

How much are the member dues?
Annual dues are $25.00 per year
Can I receive academic credit for my participation?
Yes. Available to high school students only. After completion of 120 hours of volunteer service you may earn 1/2 of an elective credit. Speak with your school councilor to make arrangements.
